The name

"DoVe" comes from the question you ask yourself every time you look for an address in Venice: "Dove?" (Where?). The capital V is a nod to Venice.

What is a nizioleto?

Nizioleti are white signs painted directly on Venice's walls, indicating streets, squares and directions. The name comes from the Venetian word for "little sheet": small white rectangles with black text that have guided walkers through the city for centuries.

Two addressing systems

The historic center is divided into six sestieri, each with its own independent progressive civic numbering. Knowing just the number isn't enough: you also need the sestiere. The lagoon islands and some central areas use the standard system instead, with street name and number like the rest of Italy.

How DoVe works

Choose a sestiere and type the civic number to find it on the map. For islands and standard areas, select the street first and then the number. Tap "Navigate" to open directions in Apple Maps or Google Maps.

The project

DoVe is an independent project, free and ad-free. All civic numbers are included in the app and it works completely offline.

The project draws inspiration from iZioleti, who first collected and georeferenced Venetian civic numbers.
